Restaurants in Korcula - Croatian Cuisine at its finest

The excellent selection of restaurants in Korcula is just one of the many reasons that visitors travel to this beautiful Croatian jewel of the Adriatic Sea. There are more than enough delicious delights here to satisfy holidaymakers with kids, foodies in search of a buzz, high-end diners or travelers looking to share their experience with some Instagram-worthy snaps. Croatian food has plenty to write home about!

Croatians are understandably proud of their gastronomic traditions, which go back to ancient times, though there is a great deal of variation from region to region. Along the coast and on the islands, the food has a distinctly sunny, Mediterranean feel, and Korcula is no exception. Mouth-watering seafood, delicious grilled and cured meats, sumptuous salads with Feta-style cheese and lovingly prepared vegetables and rice dishes are the order of the day. Korcula is renowned for its excellent olive oil and the wines here are some of the finest in Europe, not to mention the Croatian beer. All in all, there’s a lot to get excited about! Here are just a few suggestions for Korcula restaurants to get your creative juices flowing.

Konoba Maha

The stunning location in the Korcula hills can only be matched by the incredible food at this family-run restaurant. Opened in 2003 by Ivan and Jakša’s parents, the brothers now run the place, and what a place it is. Their rustic eatery with a modern twist makes full use of the surroundings and much of the ingredients are locally sourced, grown by the brothers or foraged, for a truly authentic feel. Many diners make a pilgrimage here for the ‘Peka’ a traditional Croatian dish made with meat and potatoes, cooked ultra slow to crisp and tender perfection in the fireplace under an iron ‘bell’. As it takes so long, diners are advised to book a day in advance to ensure ‘Peka’ perfection. The cocktails here are also something else, made using local ingredients for that true Korcula experience. Warning – we guarantee that just one will not be enough.

For a truly exceptional hidden gem, you have to get off the beaten track a little to find this family-run tavern which serves the best that Korcula has to offer. Nestled under a canopy of pomegranate trees, this is the perfect setting to try some local dishes, including ‘Peka’, the catch of the day or one of the pasta specialties.

With all the excellent local wine choices, it’s important to make sure you leave some room for the home-made desserts. Like many of the eateries in Korcula, in-spite of many meaty options, the reverence for vegetables means that there are plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices too.

Wine Bar Bokar

Nestled in charming Korcula Old Town, this cosy little wine bar near Marco Polo House not only has an excellent selection of wines, but also serves up a mouth-watering array of cold meat and cheese platters or tapas to enjoy while you sip a local speciality.

With a low-key, friendly atmosphere, knowledgeable staff and a traditional feel, this is the perfect place to kick back and relax at the end of a hard day of holidaying, or the beginning of a long night of partying – it’s all good. Cheers!
